tales of our imperfect, but thankfully grace-filled, journey through life together

33 weeks and counting
Yesterday was the 33 week mark! So much has happened in the last month and we are so thankful for a very healthy, growing baby boy. At 29 weeks I wad diagnosed with gestational diabetes. This complicated things a little as my diet had to change fairly dramatically since my cravings so far have all consisted of large amounts of sugar :) I am slowly overcoming a lifelong fear of needles by having to check my blood sugar 4 times a day and do insulin shots at night. I have to say those are things I never thought I'd be able to do, but doing them to protect my baby makes it a whole different ballgame. Because of the diabetes, the Dr. was concerned that Porter was starting to measure larger than he should have so we had a 32 week ultrasound. Our 32 week baby measured in as a 5 lb. 3 oz. 35 week baby- quite an overachiever! Because of his size he is being watched a little closer and I'm now having weekly non stress tests. I had the first one yesterday and it went great. He is extremely active and had a great heart rate for the entire test. We will have another ultrasound at 36 weeks to check his size again. As long as he's still in the same growth pattern (around the 77th%) and non stress tests continue to go well, then we'll be fine to go to 39 weeks. Otherwise, we may be meeting Porter a little earlier than anticipated. Either way, I could not be more thankful that he is still doing well and growing strong. These 6 weeks (give or take) are going to pass so quickly as I try and cherish every moment of being pregnant. Continued prayers would be much appreciated that Porter would continue to grow strong and healthy and maybe stay put until at least 37 weeks when his lungs would be fully developed and that my patience and strength with a very limited diet would last another 6 weeks!! Here are 33 week belly pics:
